General Info

Tucked away in the vibrant Tsukiji area, Sumibiyakihorumon Gu Tsukijiten offers a laid-back yet deeply satisfying yakiniku experience that feels both local and memorable. The location is easy to reach if you’re exploring central Tokyo, and once inside, the cozy setup immediately sets the tone for a relaxed dinner.

The menu here focuses on classic yakiniku cuts, but what really stands out is their タンスジ. It’s one of those dishes you don’t forget quickly. Thinly sliced and grilled right at your table, it develops a rich, smoky aroma that pairs perfectly with the restaurant’s charcoal grilling style. The texture is slightly chewy yet tender, and each bite feels packed with flavor. If you enjoy exploring different cuts of meat, this dish alone makes the visit worthwhile.

As for the overall dining experience, it leans toward casual but attentive. The staff keep things running smoothly without interrupting your flow, which is ideal when you’re enjoying a slow-paced dinner with friends or family. The dinner service is clearly the highlight here, with a steady stream of diners coming in to unwind after a long day.

Another thing I appreciated is how well the drink selection complements the food. Whether you prefer a cold beer, a glass of wine, or something stronger, there’s enough variety to match your meal. The smoky richness of grilled meat pairs especially well with beer, making it a popular choice among regulars.

For those who prefer to enjoy their meal at home, delivery is available, which adds a layer of convenience without missing out on the restaurant’s signature flavors. While dining in gives you the full yakiniku experience, having the option to order from the same menu at home is a nice bonus.

Reviews of this spot often highlight its consistency and quality, and from my experience, that reputation feels well-earned. It’s not overly flashy, but that’s part of its charm. Instead, it focuses on doing the basics really well-good ingredients, simple cooking, and a welcoming atmosphere.

If you’re exploring yakiniku options in Tokyo and want something authentic without being overly complicated, this place fits naturally into your list of go-to locations.

What customers say?

“ Great food! Great value! (if you get the right ones) and good fun I highly recommend the brisket and pork neck, as they have extremely good value, and when ordering drinks you can ask for no ice for more drink. Brisket costs around 1000¥ for a few slices with a nice sweet sauce. The pork neck costs around 970¥ and had a nice salty flavour with great fattiness. 2 people and we could get a whole meal for slightly more than 6000¥ total including rice, drinks and 5 plates of meat. ”

“ We ate here twice during our 8 day Tokyo trip. Food is sooo good with great service and ambiance ”

“ The best restaurant that we stumbled upon during our holiday in Japan. It was so great that we came back on the last day of our 12-days trip. Food was amazing, staff were really nice, the price were very reasonable, and it has such a great ambiance with very friendly regular locals. Will definitely come back here if we ever come to Tokyo again! ”

“ Very delicious. And friendly staff. They can speak english also. The serving is very fast. The tongue is especially delicious. Have a great dinner here. Sundubujigae was also very delicious. The minus point is the high price and Dont order horumon!!! Although its recommended on the menu but its literally FAT only. No meat at all. Strange. We spent around 800 for only 2 people. ”

“ The staffs are very friendly even though we don’t know how to speak Japanese. One of their staffs does speak English!! They serve us patiently and recommended us the best beef. Food wise is nice also but a bit salty for us, luckily they have free flow of cabbage to balance back the taste! And the most important thing is it open until late midnight!!! Since most of the restaurants/ cafe in Japan (non-busy area) close quite early ”

“ Late night at 11pm this was an amazing find for yakiniku - genuinely amazing meat and the staff were great with their recommendations. The wagyu plate is not to be missed with a mix of boiled rice and mixed in with one egg, just was fantastic Keep in mind in any yakiniku spot you will smell like cooked meat, so be prepared for it and totally worth it for the good food ”

“ interesting restaurant and concept, grilling on coals, the first time for me, very interesting, the meat was famously prepared, the rest was up to you, the smoke exhaust was above the table and there was no smell of smoke in the restaurant. The service was very pleasant, we were very satisfied ”

- Petr Holecek -

“ I would say one of the best I have ever had in Japan . ”
